*A district and sessions court in Islamabad has rejected the post-arrest bail petition of a civil judge’s wife, Somia Asim, in the minor maid torture case. She was arrested on Monday after a court rejected her bail application.

Judicial magistrate Shaista Kundi announced the reserved verdict on Thursday.

Defendant Qazi Dastgir, plaintiff Faisal Jatt, prosecutor Waqas Harl, and the parents of the victim appeared in court.

Jatt sought some time from the court for preparing arguments in the case, on which, the judge remarked that there was no need for time and ordered him to present arguments today (Thursday).

While the defendant said that they needed a medical report of the inspection conducted at 3am. He added that more charges were added to the complaint against Somia after the report.

The suspect’s lawyer informed the court that when the victim was handed over to her parents they “did not even check” her.

Judge Malik said that how the mother could have seen her child at that time. She asked the victim’s mother whether her daughter wore a scarf.

“My daughter does not wear a scarf. It was worn to hide it,” the mother said.

The lawyer of the accused told the court that the girl’s mother sat in his client’s car for 10 minutes. The judge then asked the girl’s mother again that no one should be abused and asked her to tell the court truth.

The girl’s mother told the court that her daughter was sitting in the front seat and the driver threatened her.

Judge Kundi remarked that in the video, the girl was being picked up and made to board the bus. She ordered that the video of getting off the vehicle to the court should be shown.

The court reserved the decision on the bail application of the accused after hearing arguments from both sides. Later, Judicial Magistrate Kundi pronounced the verdict and rejected Somia’s post-arrest bail application.
