The Federal Government Inspector of Railways has prepared an initial report into the accident faced by the Hazara Express, casting new light into the incident.

The FGIR report is five pages long and has been submitted to the railways chairman.

The report says that the main cause of the incident was a technical fault that developed in the train. It says that the train’s wheels jammed and dragged on the track as the locomotive continued its forward progress.

The friction from the jammed wheels being dragged caused the track to rip open ultimately causing the train to derail.

The report has also blamed faults in rolling and lack of strength in the track as an key cause for the incident.

The chairman of railways has already suspended six officers for negligence that caused the incident.

A preliminary report had said that the accident had been caused becaue the engine had ‘left without examination’.
