Many social media users have advised Defence Minister Khawaja Asif to watch his step after his cryptic tweet on the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.

“When Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was arrested, Jiyalon [supporters of PPP] threw petrol on themselves and set themselves on fire,” he tweeted. “Youthioon sada kaam si dasna, agoon thadi marzi [Our duty was to inform you. Rest is your choice].”

PTI Chief Imran Khan joined the list of past prime ministers of Pakistan who were punished by the courts in Pakistan. Khan was arrested on Saturday by the police in Lahore after a district and sessions court found him guilty of “corrupt practices” in Toshakhana criminal case.

The court slapped him with a five-year disqualification and three-year prison term in the state gifts case.

Like many other politicians and journalists, Asif took to Twitter to comment on the development. But his post did not go well with many users.

One of the users said: “Think about it”. She said that the defence minister would be blamed if any PTI worker acted upon his provocations.

Some shared old clips of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif where he was heard speaking about the response of the public to his actions in 1998-99.

One of the users described it as shameful.

There was a tweet about the time when Nawaz was put behind bars.

This is not the first time that Asif has received flak for his comments. His words for women parliamentarians of the PTI in the National Assembly and former PTI leader Shireen Mazari was widely condemned.
