9 killed as rains continue to pour across country

Heavy rains continued across the country late into Sunday night, causing damage to life and property in multiple parts of the country.

Heavy rains in Karachi late on Sunday night left roads and load lying areas submerged in water on Monday.

Rains poured down in North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Malir and Landhi.

A child was killed and his mother injured when a house’s walls colalpsed in Baldia Ittehad Town after the rains.

Elsewhere in SIndh, Sukkur, Larkana and Jacobabad experienced heavy rains causing a drop in temperatures. However, electricity disappeared in many areas as well.

Farmers have expressed fear that date palm crop could be in danger of serious damage.

Rivers rising

Torrential rains in Muzzafarabad, Azad Kashmir, have finally subsided but the additional water has run off causing a rise in the levels of rivers Jhelum and Neelum.

Meanwhile, India has released more water into Ravi, causing a low level flood at head Baloki.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Punjab has banned citizens from going near the river Ravi.

KP and Balochistan

At least six people have died in the recent rains across Balochistan in recent days, authorities said on Monday.

Provincial Disaster Management Director Faisal Panezai said that the deaths had occurred in Awaran, Qila Saifullah, Zhob and Naseerabad.

Landsliding in Swat’s tehsil Bahrain destroyed a house on Sunday, causing the deaths of two children inside. Rescuers managed to save three people from the wreckage in an injured state.

Meanwhile in Bismia in Makran, houses, mosques and madrassas were flooded after heavy rains.

Dozens of houses are affeced, leaving locals appealing for help from authorities.
