PML-N’s Amir Muqam remains unhurt in terror attack
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam remained safe in a terror attack carried out in Martung area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district on Saturday.
He was targeted during a visit to his hometown for the inauguration of the National Database and Registration Authority office, as per initial reports.
The attack ensued exchange of fire between the attackers and the police.
In a statement, available with Radio Pakistan, Muqam thanked God for escaping a terrorist attack. He thanked the people of Shangla also for supporting him.
In 2014, there was a suicide attack on the PML-N leader at the same place. The two attacks on a convoy of Muqam had left ANP leader Mian Mushtaq and at least seven other people dead.
He described terrorists as enemies of the country. Pakistan can achieve goals of development and stability “only by curbing the terrorism,” Muqam said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the terrorist attack, Radio Pakistan reported.
Sharif contacted Muqam and inquired after his well-being, according to the PM Office. He added that the political leadership, people and security forces including law enforcement agencies have made “immense sacrifices” for the protection of the country.
The prime minister paid tribute to the “valour and steadfastness” of Muqam.
“The government and the people are determined to root out the scourge of terrorism,” PM Shehabz said.
