The Islamabad High Court has barred Sindh and Balochistan police authorities from acting against Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed over the FIRs registered in Karachi and Hub.

The FIRs against the former interior minister and Awami Muslim League chief was registered following his arrest in a case lodged at Islamabad’s Abpara Police Station.

Islamabad police booked Rasheed after he failed to substantiate his claims that PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari was plotting to kill PTI Chief Imran Khan.

The PPP believes the statement amounts to inciting PTI supporters against Zardari and that it created life threats for the former president and his family.

However, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri questioned the registration of two new FIRs in Karachi and Hub.

If Rasheed had made a statement at Islamabad’s Polyclinic Hospital, how could police in Karachi register an FIR, the justice said.

The court barred Karachi police from acting against Rasheed.

The order came two days after police officers from Karachi arrived in Islamabad to seek Rasheed’s arrest.
