Two officers of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab were martyred in a firing incident in southern Punjab on Tuesday.

According to the reports, the terrorists targeted a director and an inspector of the CTD when the officials were at a restaurant near Khanewal.

The director was identified as Muhammad Navid Sadiq, a decorated officer.

In August 2020, Sadiq became the first officer of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to be honoured with the Sitara-i-Shujaat, the second-highest civil award for bravery in Pakistan.

Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident that comes when Pakistan is facing rising trend of militant activities in different parts of the country.

Following the recent rise in terrorism across the country, the National Security Committee had held a meeting a day earlier and expressed resolve to deal with the terrorists with iron hands.

The NSC meeting came in the wake of a spate of terrorist attacks in the country including multiple explosions in Balochistan in a day that martyred five Pakistan Army personnel and injured over a dozen civilians.

In another incident, one policeman was martyred when a suicide bomber blew up a car in Islamabad’s sector I-10/4 last month.
