Traffic plan: Here’s how you can get to Karachi’s Sea View on New Year eve

The Karachi police issued on Saturday the traffic plan for people who plan visit the Sea View beach strip in Clifton, and the adjacent Ibn-e-Qasim Park on New Year eve. Many routes have been made one-way. You can ride pillion to the sea as the government has lifted the ban on ‘double sawari’ for motorcyclists.

Earlier, the provincial government banned the display of arms, aerial firing, and pillion riding as it imposed Section 144 in the city. But Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon tweeted later in the day that there was no ban on pillion riding.

“People may celebrate New Year but it’s [our] humble request [that there is] no aerial firing, no blockages of roads and no one-wheeling. Your security is our utmost priority,” he wrote.

The following routes woud be one-way:

  • From McDonalds Sea View to Village Restaurant and Khayaban-e-Khalid
  • Road from Saba Avenue, Ittehad Signal to Village Restaurant would be closed
  • Incoming road from Do Darya, Khayaban-e-Khalid to Clock Tower would be closed

Diversion and alternate routes

  • People entering Defence from Akhtar Colony and Khayaban-e-Ittehad following Expressway and Korangi will be able to reach Sea View through Khayaban-e-Shamsheer, on the right of the Saba Avenue, Ittehad intersection. They will be able to return through the Sea View road, from Khayaban-e-Khalid, after taking the left side to 26th Street-Ittehad intesection, near Ayesha Masjid, Creek Road towards Qayyumabad.

Note: The route leading from Village Restaurant towards Saba Avenue-Ittehad signal would be closed.

  • The people coming from Avari Light Signal (Metropole), Sindh Club, Housing Chowk and Teen Talwar would be able to reach their destinations from Khayaban-e-Shamsheer, McDonalds, Khayaban-e-Ittehad (left of Village Restaurant) followed by Race Course signal, Gizri Bridge, Saudi Consulate signal. Or they can go from Khayaban-e-Khalid to 26th Street towards Khayaban-e-Ittihad, Ayesha Masjid.

  • People coming from Jinnah Bridge will be able to reach their destination from Mai Kolachi via Boat Basin Khayaban-e-Jami, Punjab Chowrangi-Sunset Boulevard signal and Korangi Road. Or they will be able to go via Bilawal Chowrangi, Alibaba Chowrangi, Sea View from Hyperstar McDonalds, Village Restaurant to the left from Khayaban-e-Ittehad to Korangi Road.

  • No heavy traffic would be allowed from Mauripur towards Jinnah Bridge Mai Kolachi. This traffic would be able to go to its destination via Jinnah Bridge, Hub River Road or Shahrah-e-Pakistan. However, small vehicles would be able to go to Mai Kolachi from Jinnah Bridge and from MT Khan Road to PIDC Chowk and from Shaheen Chowk to Shahrah-e-Faisal.

  • Heavy traffic including water tankers, dumpers and trawlers would be allowed to enter the city only after 2pm. No heavy vehicle would enter from the port and the Korangi Industrial Area.

  • Tankers would not be allowed in Defence and Clifton after 6pm.

  • The police have also warned that action would be taken against motorcyclists without a license plate and those invovled in reckless driving.

There will be no parking on following roads:

  • Main Shahrah-e-Faisal
  • Abdullah Haroon Road
  • Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road
  • Mai Kolachi Road
  • Korangi Road
  • MT Khan Road
