Imran Khan willing to dissolve KP, Punjab assemblies within next few days: Qureshi
Former foreign minister and Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Wednesday that Imran Khan had decided to dissolve KP, and Punjab assemblies within the next few days with the consultation of provincial leadership.
“Today, the party and the party’s leadership has given the authority to Imran Khan [for the assembly’s dissolution]. Imran Khan now intends to dissolve the assemblies soon so that the process can be taken forward,” he said while addressing a press conference along with the party’s top brass in Lahore.
Qureshi said that during today’s meeting Imran Khan said that he was now clearer about his opinion. “Fresh elections are the only solution to all crises and the assemblies will be dissolved. He is willing to dissolve the Punjab and KP assemblies within a few days,” Qureshi added.
He said that the PTI believed that even if the coalition government was keeping its own interests above the state’s and not thinking about holding general elections, then new governments should be formed in both provinces before Ramadan.
“We cannot have early elections without dissolving both provincial assemblies,” Qureshi added.
Qureshi said that the PTI leadership, including Khan, believed that the incumbent government has lost the trust of the business community as well as the agriculturists.
“The growth figures are dropping, which shows that the economy is deteriorating.”
Qureshi admitted that the party has been holding backdoor negotiations with the government. However, he added, that the PTI could not narrow the gap between the government’s position and their [PTI] demands.
