Khanewal child rapist a repeat offender

Accused served jail time for a previous rape and was only released after a settlement between families

KHANEWAL: Police have arrested the prime suspect in the rape and murder of an eight-year-old boy from the Kachaku area of Khanewal.

The boy’s body was found a day earlier which led to protests with the police springing into action in search of the accused.

The accused was arrested within hours of the body being found.

The accused, identified as Rashid, is a repeat sex offender, having previously served five years for the rape of another minor.

He was released a year earlier after his family reached a settlement with the family of his previous victim.

The residents have demanded of the Punjab chief minister, the provincial police chief and the district police to ensure they are provided justice.
