Karachi court remands suspects in Bahria Town teen’s murder

Two other suspects still at large as #JusticeForJazlan trends on social media

A sessions court in Karachi’s Malir district granted physical remand of two suspects till June 2 during the hearing of the Jazlan Faisal murder case on Monday.

Last week, 20-year-old Jazlan Faisal was killed following an altercation with motorcyclists inside the private housing society.

Jazlan along with his friend Shah Mir and another were travelling by car when they came across young men riding their bike dangerouosly. They had a heated exchange with the bikers which escalated into a scuffle.

The biker then phoned his brother, who intercepted the vehicle a little further up inside the housing society. The boys, who were armed, opened fire, shooting Jazlan in the head and Shah Mir in the arm.
The suspects fled the scene after realizing that they had committed a murder.

The two injured boys were rushed to a hospital inside BTK from where they were shifted to Aga Khan Hospital. Jazlan succumbed to his injuries while Shah Mir was under treatment.

The police launched an investigation after registering an FIR against the suspects and detained the main suspect’s father. The issue has also gathered a lot of traction on social media, with #JusticeForJazlan trending on Pakistani Twitter.

During today’s hearing, the suspect’s lawyer said that he was a minor and he shouldn’t be remanded to the police.

The plaintiff’s lawyer countered that the accused was not a minor and should be handed over to the police for questioning.

The court rejected the plea of ​​the accused’s lawyer and remanded the two accused to the police till June 2.

Two other accused are still at large, police added.
