Twitterati on Friday responded with humour, anger, frustration and approval as the Lahore administration announced that from Sept 1, only vaccinated people will get petrol.

This prompted one user to ask if “Will we get diesel.”

Another user asked for a link between Covid and petrol.

In a tweet on Monday, Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Usman Younis asked people to save August 30 as the last date because thereafter they would not be allowed shopping, fuelling on petrol pumps, travelling, sitting in examination, shopkeeping, hotel check-ins, ATM and banking services, if they are unvaccinated.

Regretting the decision of the administration, a user said the government can’t abandon basic rights of the nation as this only happens in colonial countries.

But not everyone was against the move.

One user in its response lauded the initiative, saying it would increase incentive to get vaccinated.

Another social media pointed to how the move could lead to bribery at the petrol pumps as car owners have to give some extra money for the fuel if they don’t have vaccination cards.
