President National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), Saeed Ahmed Saturday has alleged that some members of joint investigation team (JIT) probing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's sons in the Panama Papers case mistreated him.

In a letter to the registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan, Saeed Ahmed said that behaviour of some JIT members towards him was "threatening and authoritative."

A six-member JIT summoned Saeed Ahmad for questioning on May 27 about which he apprised that legal team of the bank sent a letter on his behalf to the JIT members, requesting more time and more information so that the bank can make its best efforts to search the relevant accounts for all the related parties.

"This was not taken kindly by the JIT and they brought this to the attention of the judges hearing the matter, reinforcing the impression that I was deliberately trying to delay the matter," the president NBP said in his letter. The president NBP said he reached the Federal Judicial Academy, the JIT secretariat, well in time, adding that he remained at the Federal Judicial Academy for 12 hours of which he was made to wait for the first five hours.

"I was at the Judicial Academy for 12 hours. The long wait during appearances and particularly the first five hours were very unnerving. I do realise that I was there for a criminal investigation as a witness but it seems I was being punished as a condemned person. It is bad enough to have such a long wait on an ordinary day but such an experience during the month of Ramazan was very testing," the president NBP said in his application. "During the investigation, I was insulted, threatened and subjected to undue pressure," he continued. "I thought, I should bring this matter into notice of the judges the treatment that I received to be put on record through your good offices."
