Mobile phone services will remain suspended on Muharram 9 and 10 in Islamabad, provincial capitals and dozens of other cities owing to security threats.

Apart from the suspension of cellular phone services, pillion riding has also been banned in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

According to sources, there will be no mobile phone services in Karachi from 8am to 10pm on Ashura.

Separately, the federal government announced that mobile phone service would be shut down in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Metro service will also remain suspended in Islamabad. In Lahore, district authorities said that mobile phone service would remain suspended from 7am to 9pm. In addition, cellular phone services will be shut down in Faisalabad, Multan, Hyderabad, Quetta and many other cities.
