NEW DELHI: India and Afghanistan have called for an end to all sponsorship, support and sanctuaries to militants, including those who have committed violence in the two countries, as they signed an extradition treaty in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The joint statement came at the start of Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani's two-day visit to India.

Kabul has cultivated closer ties with New Delhi in recent years.

India also offered a fresh one billion US dollars in aid to Afghanistan for capacity building in areas such as education, health, agriculture, energy and infrastructure, according to a joint statement issued by the two sides.— AP
