Eid-ul-Azha today
WEB DESK: Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated across the country with religious fervour and enthusiasm on Tuesday (today). Big Eid congregations will be held at mosques, Eidgahs, and open places in all cities, towns, and villages across the country.
Ulema and Khateeb would highlight significance of the festival and philosophy of sacrifice. Special prayers would be offered in mosques for the wellbeing of the Ummah and progress, prosperity, safety and security of the country.
In the federal capital, the main Eid congregation will be held at Faisal Mosque. After offering Eid prayers, the faithful will slaughter their sacrificial animals. The process of slaughtering the animals would continue till Thursday afternoon.
Federal and provincial governments have chalked out special security arrangements across the country to ward off untoward incidents. Policemen will be deployed during Eid congregations in cities and towns across the country.
Civic authorities in different cities and towns have also adopted special arrangements for the disposal of offal and other waste generated during the slaughter of animals across the country.
President Mamnoon Hussain is away from the country for performance of Hajj while Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to offer Eid prayers at Raiwind.
The PM has extended Eid greetings to the nation and urged Pakistanis to share the joys of Eid with the poor and under-privileged. He also asked people to remember the sacrifices of the armed forces fighting terrorism. He also encouraged the masses to "rise above personal, sectarian, and party interests" in order to eliminate extremism.
