Moomal Sheikh's debut banned in Pakistan
WEB DESK: Diana Penty, Abhay Deol, Jimmy Sheirgill and Ali Fazal starrer ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi‘ has managed to gain positive reviews from critics and audience in India, but unfortunately the film has been banned in Pakistan.
According to the reports, the film was not allowed to make it to the theaters in Pakistan.
Confirming on the same, producer of the film, Aanand L Rai has said, “Initially, I was told that the film is clean. Later, we were informed that a ministry in Pakistan had objected to the film. As a film-maker, the only greed I have is that the movie should reach a larger audience. The political reason for which a film is banned has nothing to do with a common man.â€
‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’ was given a green signal earlier, but somehow the Pakistani authorities issued a ban at the last moment. Mr Rai further said, “In Bollywood, we have made a film on Gandhiji –Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006). But we never faced any backlash. As film-makers, we are allowed to have our own voice.
"They also had an issue with the policeman’s character in the film (played by Piyush Mishra). The board did not provide a particular reason, but a unanimous ban was issued.â€
The film revolves around the story of a girl who escapes from a forced wedding to marry the one she loves, but accidentally lands up in Lahore, Pakistan. Pakistani actor Momal Sheikh has also made her Bollywood debut with this film.
