Maulana Samiul Haq was not given ’specific mission’ on counter-terrorism issue
ISLAMABAD: A spokesman of the government Thursday said that Maulana Samiul Haq, the head of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, had not been given any "specific mission" by the government regarding measures to address issue of terrorism.
Instead, he was asked in general to use his good offices and cooperation in this regard, the spokesman said in a statement issued here.
The spokesman said it was also agreed during the meeting that to whom Maulana Samiul Haq could talk whenever required. He denied the impression by the Maulana that the government did not pay heed to him.
"Even three weeks after the meeting, he did not inform (the government) about any progress," the spokesman said.
