IHC seeks reply from IGP on security of former CJP
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Thursday directed the additional secretary cabinet and Inspector General Police Islamabad to apprise the court on January 2 that what steps has been taken for providing fool proof security to the former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
A single member bench comprising Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui issued the directive while hearing a plea filed by former president Rawalpindi High court Sheikh Ahsanuddin for providing security to the former Chief Justice.
During the course of hearing, a senior official of interior ministry appeared before the court and apprised that government has provided a bullet proof vehicle and deputed 16 personnel of law and enforcement agencies for the security of former chief justice.
Those who violated the constitution were being provided fool proof security while the protector of the constitution ignored and left in lurch without ensuring adequate security to them, Justice Siddiqui remarked.
Sheikh Ahsan, petitioner apprised the bench that the retired CJP has to address bar associations nationwide and keeping in view the country's law and order situation the security of former CJP is essential.
He prayed the court to direct interior ministry to provide security to former Chief Justice.
