SL Premier League declares Afridi and Gayle to be "icon players"
COLOMBO: The administrators of Sri Lankan Premier League have declared Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi and West-Indian Chris Gayle to be international icon player.
The auction process for players to be playing in the Sri Lankan Premier League would start tomorrow and it includes Afridi and Gayle as the most expensive players.
Besides Afrid and Gayle, five Sri Lankan plyers would also be the icon players for their respective teams.
Players have been divided into two groups for the auction process; of which one group would comprise the International players while the other group would consist the Sri Lankan players.
7 teams would contest within the SL Premier League scheduled to be played during 10th to 31st October in Colombo and Palkelle.
Afridi would be representing the Nagenahira Nagas while Gayle would play for Uva Unicorns.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) auctioned seven teams last week. According to the rules of the League, a team would consist of 18 players of which 6 would be International. Only 4 International players would be allowed to play in a match.
