NEW DELHI: According to Indian media reports on Friday, Recently released Surjeet Singh confessed that Sarabjit Singh is a terrorist and now he has embraced Islam.

Upon arrival in India Surjeet amitted that he was a spy working for Indian RAW.

"I was a RAW ( Research and Analysis Wing) agent. No one bothered for me after I got arrested. Don't ask me too much.....otherwise the BSF (Border Security Force) will get annoyed," he told media just after his arrival

In an interview with Indian channel, Surjeet also claimed the Sarabjit and another Indian prisoner Kirpal Singh embraced Islam in the hope of getting some concession from jail authorities.

"Sarabjit is known as Sarfaraz while Kirpal's Muslim name was Mohammad Deen. They embraced Islam for concessions from jail authorities and from Pakistan government but it didn't happen," he said. He said he never ate food cooked in jail. He always took raw food and did his own cooking.

"I often meet Sarabjit but I wasn't allowed to meet him today," he said.

Popularly known as Bapuji in jail, Surjeet said Sarabjit was aware of the efforts being made for his release.

He said he knew about the confusion over his and Sarabjit's release. "Both names are almost written same in Urdu so there might have been some confusion," he said, adding that he knew that his release orders arrived in jail.

Surjeet also said he would fight for Sarabjit's freedom. "I will do something for his release but don't ask me what," he said. .

Ironically, during his over three decades in Pakistani jails, Surjeet had contested the fact that he was a spy. He was sentenced to death earlier but that was later commuted to life imprisonment. (agencies)
