Ordinance to defend former PM’s decisions challenged in court
ISLAMABAD: The presidential ordinance issued to defend former Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani's decision was challenged in the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday.
The application challenging the presidential ordinance has been submitted in the SC by Shahid Orakzai. The applicant, in his application, has stated that the President has violated the constitution by issuing the presidential ordinance. According to the applicant's stance in his application, the President has undermined the legislative authority of the Parliament while also trying to weaken the Court's authority by passing the presidential ordinance.
The application further states that the issuance of unconstitutional ordinance may lead the Parliament to initiate an impeachment movement against the President. Hence, the applicant has urged the Supreme Court to declare the ordinance as unconstitutional.
