ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday concluded the case of Kohistan killings scandal stating that the girls have been found alive, Aaj news reported.

A three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry concluded the suo moto case taken over the Kohistan killings of five girls by a tribal jirga.

A report of a judicial officer was presented before a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The report stated that media reports about the killings were bogus and that the girls were alive.

The court stated that the investigative teams comprising  a civil judge, MNA Bushra Gauhar, rights activist Farzana Bari (part of civil society) were sent twice to verify the claims aired on certain television channels and the report submitted by the team was found to be satisfactory according to the Chief Justice.

Earlier, A tribal assembly in a remote village Hazara division has reportedly sentenced four women and two men to death for ‘staining the honor’ of their families. A video was also uploaded on the internet in this regard.

Some reports claimed that, the accused men and women were allegedly caught on videotape singing and dancing together at a wedding ceremony, which is considered as a violation of their tribal law for gender segregation, therefore they were ordered to kill.
