Malik Riaz granted 7 days to acquire legal counsel by SC

The Supreme Court has given Malik Riaz seven days to acquire legal counsel as he was being charged for the contempt of court, this Thursday, Aaj News reported.

During the case proceedings today, the Apex court bench told Malik that he has seven days to hire a lawyer and that he no further time will be allowed on the excuse of case preparation.

The bench also rejected the petition filed to put Malik Riaz and Arsalan's name on the Exit Control List (ECL) saying that there was no need as he was unlikely to leave after just coming back from London on court orders.

The court order was read out to Malik Riaz in both Urdu and English language as he displayed difficulty in understanding English. He said, "I am trying to contract high-profile lawyers including Aitzaz Ahsan but failed to succeed in hiring one. I am hopeful to get engaged someone soon.

Bahria Town Housing scheme owner Malik Riaz was summoned by the court on Wednesday after his controversial press conference, where he brought a pocket sized Quran with him and proclaimed serious allegations against the Judiciary, Chief Justice of Pakistan and Dr. Arsalan Iftikhar, who is the son of Chief Justice Muhmmad Iftikhar Chaudhry.

Later, after the case proceedings Riaz Malik left the Supreme Court without speaking to the media present outside as he was gagged from talking to the press by the Supreme Court bench.

The hearing has been adjourned till 21 June.
