Commuters suffer as CNG strike enters day two

The shutter down strike on sale of CNG called by All Pakistan CNG Association has entered its second day today on Thursday. Aaj News reported.

Commuters were left under a burden of problems as CNG was not available today for a second day all over Pakistan.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is the most consumed alternative fuel used in Pakistan, mainly because it is very economical compared to petrol.

The All Pakistan CNG Association called for a strike after the government revealed new taxes to be imposed on the CNG industry. According to the APCNGA these new taxes, if imposed, will increase the price of CNG by Rs 15, which will directly effect the consumers, the public.

Speaking to the media, central chairman All Pakistan CNG Association, Ghayas Abdullah Paracha said, “This tax will be an extra burden on the public’s pocket so it’s equally lethal for the public and CNG station owners."

He further went on to criticize the government on its inability to provide a sustainable supply of water and electricity to the people. He appealed the public to support their strike and put up a fight against the government for increasing prices of CNG.  Whereas, secretary Petroleum & Natural Resources, Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry has made a clear remark against the strike by calling it an 'unjustified' strike.

Meanwhile, the two-day strike has enabled public transporters like public buses, taxi drivers and auto drivers to ask for exaggerated amounts of money from people who cannot afford petrol.

The problems of daily commuters are only expected to rise in the future as it is highly speculated that the strike will continue until the government and the CNG association reach an accord.
