ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court on Monday suspended the senate membership of Interior Minister Rehman Malik during the hearing of dual nationality case, reported Aaj News.

Rehman Malik is not eligible as he possesses nationality of Britain too, the court said. The three-member bench disregarded the documents submitted by the lawyer of Rehman malik as ‘meaningless’ and irrelevant.

During today's hearing of Supreme Court regarding Members of Parliament who possess dual nationalities, the Supreme Court remarked that Malik's counsel should present authentic documents of declaration renouncing the minister's UK citizenship, instead of a fill out form.

According to the sources, the court suspended his membership on failure of providing sufficient document to prove his forfeited British citizenship.

Earlier, the Supreme Court rejected the documents submitted by Rehman Malik's lawyer proving that he is not a UK citizen anymore.

The court has also disqualified Farahnaz Isphani, media adviser to President Asif Ali Zardari for holding a US citizenship on May 25.
