PESHAWAR: The Supreme Court took sou moto notice into the killings of five women after being punished by the tribal jirga in Kohistan, Aaj news reported.

Chief Justice Ifthikhar Muhammad Chaudhry condemned the killings and declared all the decisions of jirgas as illegal and illegitimate.

CJ instructed the attorney general to find out about the four girls, who were sentenced to death by the local clerics over clapping and singing in a wedding ceremony along with two men, and inform the court.

Earlier, A tribal assembly in a remote village Hazara division has sentenced four women and two men to death for 'staining the honor' of their families.

According to report, the accused men and women were allegedly caught on videotape singing and dancing together at a wedding ceremony, which is considered as a violation of their tribal law for gender segregation.

The women have been called back from their in-laws and are being starved and tied up in a room at Seertaiy village in Kohistan district. The men have, however, managed to flee.

On the other side, There were conflicting reports regarding the fate of four women in Kohistan who were sentenced to death by a traditional jirga for dancing at a wedding with boys, as the brother of an accused boy claimed that the girls had been shot dead by relatives a few days ago.

However, officials kept denying the reports.
