Dual Nationality: Farah Naaz suspended from National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: During the hearing of Supreme Court's case regarding Members of Parliament who possess dual nationalities, the apex court announced the suspension of Farah Naaz Ispahani's membership from National Assembly. Aaj News reported.

The case was being heard by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry.

During the proceedings, certain documents were presented to the court, confirming allegations that Farah Naaz Ispahani is a dual nationality holder. According to the document Farah Naaz is also an American National.

The supreme court ruled, that her membership from the National Assembly will be revoked on account of  not disclosing her dual nationality status to the Election Commission.

On May 8, the Supreme Court issued notices to Interior Minister, Rehman Malik and Farah Naaz Isphani for the second time, demanding their statements regarding the allegations.

During today's hearing Senator Rehamn Malik's lawyer prayed the court on behalf of his client, for an extension in deadline to present the certificate of Malik revoking his British citizenship.

It should be noted that Farah Naaz Ispahani is a prominent PPP figure and the wife of Pakistan's former ambassador to America, Hussain Haqqani.

The hearing of the case has been adjourned till May 30.
