Over 2,000 people killed in Karachi last year: Amnesty International
ISLAMABAD: In the yearly report of Amnesty International , it was found out that around 2,000 innocent people were killed in Karachi in the previous year(2011) on the basis of targeted killing.
According to the yearly analytical report of AI, Situation in Balochistan will be worsen if not immediately resolved.
Salil Shetty, Amnesty International Secretary General, launched the report at the international secretariat of AI. He said the state of human rights in the world remained hostage to vested interests in most developing countries but also criticised the western governments for not standing up with the democratic movements, failing to act where the action was needed, and being complicit in crimes.
The report said women and girls continued to face severe discrimination in law and in practice, particularly in relation to personal status, employment and their subordination to male guardians. The report highlighted the violence in Karachi and said the city remained “gripped by a wave of killings sparked by rival gangs associated with different ethnic and political groupsâ€.
The AI’s report which covers January-December2011 also include that political parties are involved in the killings of over 2,000 people in Karachi.
Moreover, 1500 women were killed due to several reasons. While 500 were killed on the name of honor.
