Petition filed in SC against ‘fort-like’ US embassy

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court by Lt Col (Ret) Inam-ul-Haq, under Article 199 of the Constitution, on Tuesday. The petition was filed against the construction of new American Embassy which is to be built on 56 acres of prime Islamabad land, which exceeds the size of White House in Washington, USA.

Lt Col (Retd) Inam-ul-Haq prayed the court to reconsider the permissions given to the American State Department to build an Embassy with secret bunkers and huge buildings with heavily fortified walls which almost gives an impression of a mini-state with in Islamabad. Praying the court, Col Inam-ul-Haq asked for a withdrawal of unnecessary amount of land allotted by our Capital Development Authority (CDA) for constructing the American Embassy.

He requested the court to seek a report of the on going construction of the Embassy in Islamabad and that the top most reputable retired judges, lawyers and civil engineers should be nominated by the PEC to visit and examine the construction site.

The retired colonel stated, that the U.S is spending over $1 billion for the construction of this new fortified embassy compound, with so much man-power already working on the project, as if they were building a mini-state with in Islamabad. The design and structure of the compound appears to be city-like with tall multiple story buildings and offices, gigantic basements, and a huge seven-story office building that could host more than 7,000 people in it.

He presented the court with detailed measurements of the buildings and structures being built inside the Embassy compound, hinting that the need to build such humongous structures could prove to be a future threat to Pakistan's security and it's nuclear assets, which America has been curious about ever since Pakistan became a nuclear power.

According to CDA the construction of the fort-like US embassy has already begun. It is said to be an expansion of the current Embassy compound in Islamabad, which will replace all systems and infrastructure of the present embassy. This embassy will be constructed on 56 acres of land which is bigger than the size of the White House, which stands at 51 acres of land. However, the biggest US embassy is in Baghdad, Iraq, standing at almost 108 acres of land.
