18 Indian fishermen released from Landi jail

KARACHI: Around 18 Indian fishermen on Tuesday held in prison for more than two years for infringing on territorial waters were released from the Landhi jail, Karachi on the completion of the imprisonment and as a good will gesture, Aaj news reported.

The prisoners detained by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) off Jakhau coast for infringing on territorial waters were released as a good will gesture, police officials said.

Hundreds of both Pakistani and Indian fishermen are caught and jailed by enforcement agencies for violating maritime boundaries as there is no marked sign of a border. Ill-equipped and ill-literate, fishermen from both the countries serve years in prison, only to be released when top diplomatic missions of both countries finalise an arrangement.
