Marvel's The Avengers maintains its position a top of the international box office for the fourth week in a row, grabbing another $56 million from 54 overseas territories for a worldwide total of $1.1 billion.
The superhero adventure's five top markets are the UK ($72.3 million), China ($69.3 million), Mexico ($56.2 million), Brazil ($51.9 million) and South Korea ($47.7 million).

This is Disney's biggest release ever, surpassing the studio's 2006 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. It has also exceeded Avatar and Titanic in Latin America.

The international release of The Avengers has captured 62% of the film's revenues with $720 million, but the film was released a week earlier outside the US, where it reaped another $55 million this weekend.

In second, Tim Burton's Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp took another $30.4 million in 52 territories. The vampire fantasy comedy debuted in first place in Japan with $5 million and held the top spot again in France.

Taking a close third place, Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy The Dictator seized $30.3 million from 29 markets, nipping at the heels of Shadows. The zany comedy opened this weekend in the top spot in 25 markets, earning an impressive average of $10,000 per theater.

In fourth, American Pie: Reunion made $10.2 million in 48 territories for a international total of $159.4 million. A strong debut in Hong Kong brings the worldwide total to $215.8 million. With only $56.4 million tallied in the US, close to 74% of the total gross for the latest sequel in the comedy franchise has come from the international market.

Ranking fifth, Battleship took another $6.5 million in 63 markets for a total of $226.8 million on the foreign circuit. The board game adaptation opened this weekend in North America, landing in second after the reigning Avengers.
