Pakistani documentary to be screened in Cannes Film Festival

Recent times and era make it almost impossible to show a better picture of Pakistan to the people at large. But this impossible has been made possible by a Pakistani producer, Arsalan Khan, with his short documentary named "Kingdom of Women". This short film will be screened on May 17 in the Cannes Film Festival.

"Kingdom of Women" is the only Pakistani film to have made its way to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, commencing on May 16, in France.

More than 10,000 short films  from all over the world were involved within the Cannes Film Festival, and of these, only 100 documentaries got selected including "Kingdom of Women".

This documentary film portrays the working women of Meena Bazar within Karachi with special focus on their special achievements.

While exclusively talking to Aaj News, Producer Arsalan Khan, stated that the main aim of the documentary was encourage women from all around the world with special voice being raised with respect to the rights of women.

"I had to take the initiative of making the documentary myself and I received no support from neither the government of Pakistan nor any media channel," Arsalan said.

"If we continue to wait for such supports than I guess no one would be able to come up with such things and eventually the ugly face of the nation would continue to be displayed worldwide," Arsalan further stated.

The main aim of this documentary is to exhibit the courageous women of Pakistan and to further display the softer image of the country.

This is yet another achievement by another Pakistani to make the nation proud. We, as Pakistani wish Arsalan and his movie all the best wishes and would certainly keep our fingers crossed when the movie would be screened on the 17th of May.
