146 cell phones confiscated from inmates: Khyber PK
PESHAWAR: The Bannu Jail incident has led the Inspector General (Jails) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) to confiscate 142 mobile sets from the prisoners in different jails of the province.
This operation has been initiated by the IG Jail since 3 days. The action has been reported to be taken on the orders of the Home Department KPK.
The main aim of this operation is to avoid any discrepancies and lapses in security within Jails.
An official of the Home Department quoted that the use of mobile phone by prisoners is totally illegal, further stating that mobile usage by jail staff while carrying prisoners from jail to court is also illegal.
“During the last 3 days 46 cell phones have been confiscated from Central Jail Peshawar, 26 from Hari Pur Central Jail, 15 from District Kohat Jail, 11 each from Mansehra and Lakki Marwat’s District Jails, 8 each from Mardan and Karak District Jails, 6 from District Jail Bannu, four each from District Jail Timargarha and Sub Jail Daggar, 2 from Battagram district jail and 1 from D.I.Khan District Jail,†stated the Home Department official.
