Tension continues as Lyari operation enters 8th day


KARACHI: More troops have arrived as tension within the area of Lyari persists after 7 days. The Lyari operation has entered into its 8th day and there is no glimpse that the operation would halt any time soon.

South zone police forces have arrived in order to support the on-going operation.

According to Police officials, the fight against miscreants has entered its 8th day and intense gunfire battle continues within the area of Lyari. Police have not made any progress, stating that their opponents have the upper hand with respect to technologically advanced armory.

The intense operation has claimed almost 27 lives and more than 60 individuals have been injured from both ends.

The extreme clash between police and the miscreants have continued for the the 8th day, forcing more resident to flee to safer places.

According to police officials, areas including Afshani street, Gabol Park and "Cheel Chowk" have faced severe battle, with several rocket attacks being fired at the police. On the contrary, media individuals after reaching the troubled area, found witnesses claiming that the police is responsible for the gunfire and there are no such criminals within the area of Afshani street as claimed by the police.

Witnesses also claim that they have been deprived of food, water and electricity as a result of the police operation. They have also claimed that this is a biased operation carried out by the government.

Sources have reported that 11 rockets were fired by the miscreants during the police operation on the 8th days.

2 police officials have been reported to be injured as a result of the intense calsh with the operation still in progress.

Reports had also indicated that police officials had been reported to halt the operation for 48 hours in order that the offenders surrender themselves up to the police officials.

Recent reports have indicated that intense firing has again commenced near the "Cheel Chowk". The firing is reported to be started from the miscreants.
