SIACHEN: General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani visited the Gayari sector of Siachen on Thursday.

The reason of the visit was to review and assess the on-going rescue operation within the calamity-hit area.

According to a statement released by the ISPR,  the satellite data-link has also started operating and this would further help in observing the entire rescue operation from within the GHQ.

The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) remained with the troops for sometime. During his stay at the rescue site, he praised the work of the rescue workers in such difficult weather conditions. Although the chances of survival seem bleak, the COAS praised the efforts of his troops with respect to their determination.

The COAS was escorted by the Commander Rawalpindi Corps and a media team was also invited to the rescue site in order to witness and report the rescue activities.
