‘The Pirates band of misfits’ in theaters on April 27
The Pirates! Band of Misfits is the latest movie from Aardman Animations Studio Co-Founder Peter Lord. Lord, who also has 'Chicken Run' and 'Wallace and Gromet' to his name, produced and directed the film.
He says the idea came about during an Aardman story meeting where they gather together to toss out ideas. Someone brought a book and Lord says within reading the first few pages he laughed several times, and the idea for the movie was born.
Lord is also a fan of pirates, he says it started with the book 'Treasure Island' when he was a child so the movie is a perfect fit.
In the movie 'The Pirates! Band of Misfits' the lead character, the Pirate Captain, voiced by Hugh Grant, is on a quest to become 'Pirate of the Year'. Lord says you can equate it to the Academy Awards of pirates. This honor is bestowed upon the pirate who gathers the most booty. Sadly though, the Pirate Captain and his crew are quite possible the worst band of pirates ever. So every year the Pirate Captain enters the contest and every year he comes in last place. But the Pirate Captain is surrounded by a loyal group who love and adore him.
'The Pirates! Band of Misfits' is rated PG-13 for mild action, rude humor and some language. It opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, April 27, 2012.
