Bayern lead the semi final first leg: UEFA cup
GERMANY: The much awaited semi final of the UEFA cup started on Tuesday 11:45 GMT at the Allianz Arena. It was the home side that commanded the first half of the game with Franck Ribery striking off early for the home team. The French International held on to a deflection and drilled past Iker Casillas in the 17th minute. This early lead led the home team to play more confidently throughout the first half.
The second half started well for the visiting side and Real Madrid got their goal in the 56th minute when Mesut Ozil guided Cristiano Ronaldo's pass into the goal. The goal continued Ozil's good form against Bayern Munich.
The match continued with both the teams making hard efforts for the second goal but it was the home team which took the lead via Mario Gomez in the 89th minute. The German International converted compatriot Lahm's cross into a spectacular goal, much to the surprise of Jose Mourinho.
This was Real Madrid's first loss in the Champion's League this year and it also continued the winning streak of Bayern Munich against Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena. Bayern's midfield was really strong and organized with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery grinding the right side continuously, making defending difficult for Real Madrid.
The match gave an edge to the Home side but it also gave an important away goal to the visiting side as well. Football analysts believe that Real Madrid still has the advantage, thanks to the away goal but Bayern Munich will not be in a mood to give up when the two sides meet at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid next week.
