Contempt case: SC rejects Aitzaz’s appeal for postponement of Swiss letter

ISLAMABAD: The hearing of contempt of court case against Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani resumed today in Supreme Court Thursday, Aaj news reported.

As the proceeding begins in SC, PM's Counsel Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan argued that Contempt of Court Ordinance 2003 is no more effective as a new ordinance in this regard was issued in 2004.

The court rejected the appeal of Aitzaz Ahsan in which he requested the court to postpone the matter of Swiss letter till the president is in power, as he enjoys the immunity.

The seven-member larger bench including Justice Nasirul Mulk, Justice Asif Khosa, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Ajaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ajaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmad and Justice Athar Syed is hearing the case.

The hearing was adjourned for today.

Earlier on March 27, Supreme Court adjourned the hearing due to ailment of Aitzaz Ahsan.
