Sindh: Hollywood Icon Sean Penn visits flood survivors

On Friday, an 8 member delegate of US, including the famous Hollywood two time Oscar winning Actor/Producer/Director,  Sean Penn visited the flood hit deserts of Badin in Sindh.

The purpose of his visit: Distribute relief goods to the people who were affected by the floods in 2011.

During his visit he talked to the people of Badin and shared their experiences about the hardships they had to face before, during and after the floods.

Penn visited a number of villages on his journey to Badin. Accompanied by US Counsel General William J. Martin and DC Badin Kazim Jatoi, they distributed essential daily commodities and utility items among the flood affected people.

Penn who seemed really interested in how the villagers'  lives were affected by the flood, listened to stories of the survivors, about how the floods destroyed their homes, crops, cattle and snatched their loved ones from them.

The US Army man, Martin said, that the US is providing AID worth more than $25 million for the displaced victims of floods in Pakistan. He stated the number of shelter homes, clinics and the amount of water supply being provided to the affected people was huge because of the help of USAID. He said, that more than a million people were being directly or indirectly surviving because of US help and aid.

While, many speculations suggest that the cost of arranging this trip to Pakistan was actually more than the cost of aid distributed.

He said that further aid and support was heavily depending on the relations of Pakistan and the US, labeling the Salala base attack as a 'confusion', he said that the relations between the two countries are surely but gradually being restored.

When asked questions by the reporters, Sean Penn did not talk to anyone on record, stating that the reason for his visit is only to interact with the flood victims and experience their way of life.
