Wahida Shah moves SHC

Sindh High Court Hyderabad Circuit Bench took up on Monday the petition of Syeda Wahida Shah Bukhari, the Pakistan Peoples Party candidate who was disqualified for contesting the elections due to assault on the polling staff during the recent by-elections on the Sindh Assembly seat in Tando Muhammad Khan.

The court issued notices to the respondents including the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Provincial Election Commission, District Election Commissioner and the Returning Officer of Tando Muhammad Khan, and Mir Mushtaf Talpur, one who bagged the second highest number of votes as per the unverified by-election results.

The petitioner's counsel advocate Jhamat Mal sought stay from the court on the new date of the by-elections in PS-53 constituency in Tando Muhammad Khan, however, the same was not granted.

The counsel challenged the ECP verdict which was announced on March 7 which banned Bukhari for 2 years from taking part in the elections and also the with holding of the February 25 by-elections results.

The bench comprising Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbassi and Justice Muhammad Tasnim issued notices to the respondents for March 22.
