Islamabad: New DG ISI Gen. Zaheer takes command
Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam will take charge of new DG of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) today (Monday) after the retirement of ISI chief General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, Aaj news reported.
Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam assumed the charge of new director general of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).
Islam has earlier served as the deputy director general of the ISI as a major general. He was then promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and was appointed as corps commander Karachi.
Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam belongs to the 13 infantry unit Punjab Regiment also saved as GCO Murree.
Meanwhile General Shuja Pasha was appointed DG ISI in October 2008 at an important juncture in the history of Pakistan. He got two extensions during his tenure as ISI chief. He got one year extension once while two years on the second time.
The time magazine has recently included his name in the list of 100 strongest personalities of the world.
