Bogus Drug Case: 11 pharma employees arrested by Lahore police
After Rehman Malik's announcement to probe the reports of pharmaceutical companies involved in producing and supplying fake drugs. The Lahore police department has tracked down 11 people and arrested them for involvement in deaths that occurred after administering bogus drugs given to heart patients at Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC). AajNews reported.
Nine of the 11 arrested, belonged to a private Pharmaceutical company in Karachi called Efroze pharmaceutical, while two others belong to a medicine supply company. The detainees have been shifted to an unknown location for further investigation.
The bogus drug probe took effect when last month, the Supreme Court took Suo-moto notice of this issue and ordered investigations into the matter. After which the Punjab CM Shabaz Sharif formed a committee under DIG Zulfiqar Cheema to inquire the matter.
The committee carried out a raid at Efroze Pharmaceutical and took in record samples and reports as evidence, which after lab tests was proven to be bogus and of low quality drugs.
These reports have given the police reason enough to arrest the alleged suspects in this case.
