Senate polls to further strengthen democracy: Dr Firdous

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said here on Friday that democracy would continue to flourish in the country with the completion of successful Senate election.

Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, she said the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leadership was pursuing politics of reconciliation, therefore, it was moving ahead with coalition partners.

She said all political forces were agreed on a single point that democratic system must sprout.

She said it was the will of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to take coalition partners on-board.

She said the government was following a policy to transfer fruits of democracy to provinces. The information minister said a person in Punjab was propagating against president office which was against the consitution.

The President, she said, was exhibiting a rare show of patience as he did not want confrontation.

Dr Firdous said the chief minister Punjab should be thankful to the President for distributing laptops as the President ensured transfer of resources from centre to provinces.
