Pakistani rock band Jal's concert cancelled due to protest in India
Renowned Pakistani band, JAL fell victims to a concert cancellation because of protests from Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (BVS) activists who forced the organisers of the five-day chain of event on Thursday in the city.
The event, Melange, was to kick-start from Thursday and Jal was to perform on Sunday. However, a group of BVS activists lead by Kiran Sali organised a demonstration outside the college demanding the cancellation of the event.
“Pakistani sponsored terrorism has always been a bane for India. Also Pakistani compliance has been proved without a doubt even in the German Bakery bomb-blast. In this scenario, allowing a Pakistani band to perform in India almost amounts to subversion and hence, we had protested against it,’’ said Kiran.
The rock band was to perform in the college's an annual event, which is an eclectic mixture of technical and non technical programmes. RM Jalnekar, director of the institute, confirmed the cancellation of the event.
News of cancellation and refund was also published on the event website.
