PA adjourned amid uproar
The Punjab Assembly session was adjourned till Monday afternoon following after trading of barbs between treasury and opposition members on Friday.
The session commenced with a delay of an hour and 50 minutes with Rana Muhammed Iqbal in the chair.
Soon after recitation of the Holy Quran, Leader of the Opposition Raja Riaz Ahmed, on a point of order, flayed the Punjab government and said holding Islamabad responsible for deaths from dengue and spurious drugs was absurd and far from facts.
He said the Chief Minister had issued such an irresponsible statement to divert people's attention from his failure. He asked the chair to direct Shahbaz Sharif to personally come to the House and give a statement on the PIC issue that has resulted in the deaths of patients through the use of tainted cardic medication.
The situation became tense at the start of session and members continued to raise slogans against each other. The situation took an ugly turn when a unification bloc member, Sheikh Alauddin, uttered unparliamentary language against a member.
Amid uproar, the opposition members continued to debate the deaths at Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC). Thereafter the Speaker left the House and Mehr Ishtiaq, member panel of chairman, took the chair.
Later, Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said that the chief minister would himself apprise the House about measures regarding the PIC issue.
The House was adjourned till February 6 at 3 pm.
