The Supreme Court ordered that by-elections could not be held on the old lists as the Election Commission had itself admitted that 30 million votes were bogus.

During proceedings of the computerised voters lists case today, The court directed the authorities to hold by-elections only on verified lists.

The apex court ruled that by-elections should be free and transparent.

Later, The case hearing was adjourned till February 6.

Earlier, The court directed the Commission to complete the voter lists within the stipulated time of Feb 23.
