Thirty 'heavyweights' join PTI

The slogan of 'change' vociferously raised by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) attracted 30 political bigwigs, including some sitting legislators, former federal and provincial ministers.

They joined the Imran-led party on Monday.

The PTI chief, Imran Khan, who was present on the occasion, claimed that a large number of politicians belonging to PML-N and PPP were desirous to join the party but were afraid of 'political victimisation' at the hands of their respective party leaders.

The independent judiciary under Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry had saved the country from complete collapse at the hands of incumbent rulers, he said, adding that his party had provided the nation with the third option to get rid of the PPP and PML-N.

Imran said that he had been in touch with Jehangir Tareen for one year.

"I wanted him to join PTI, as he is not doing politics for the sake of politics but wants Pakistan to prosper," Imran added.

He said that Tareen would head the PTI Policy-Reforms Committee soon.

"Despite a 15-year long journey, the PTI policy stance on key issues always remained the same and will not change it in future but if someone in the party has any reservations, they are free to challenge me," said Imran.
