SC declares appointment of Ogra chief ‘unconstitutional’

The Supreme court of Pakistan has declared the appointment of Ogra chief Toqeer Sadiq     as unconstitutional here on friday.

Earlier, The Supreme Court (SC) reserved the judgement on constitutional petition filed against the appointment of Ogra chairman.

A three-member bench comprising Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain reserved the judgement on October 4, 2011.

It is worth mentioning that the petition was filed by Muhammad Yasin against the eligibility of Tauqeer Sadiq, Ogra's dysfunctional chairman.

During the course of hearing Muhammad Akram Sheikh, counsel for Tauqeer Sadiq, pleaded that the petition was not maintainable because the Islamabad High Court had already given its verdict over the matter.

However, Deputy Attorney General Ali Zai apprised the bench that Sadiq had been sent on forced leave soon after the authority received allegations against him, adding that the charge-sheet against Sadiq carried 10 allegations.
