21 killed in renewed violence in Karachi

At least 17 people were killed and dozens other injured in new spell of violence in the city here today.

Five dead bodies were recovered from a bus in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi earlier today.

According to police, all five of the victims had been shot dead. The bodies were later transferred to the Jinnah Hospital in Karachi.

Three of the five dead were identified as Mohammad Wali, Ghulam Khan and Ahmed Jan Khan. The identities of the remaining two victims are still unknown.

Earlier, an unknown person was shot dead in khadda market. While Only in Qasba Colony 9 people were killed and several were injured. Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus in Qasba Colony, leaving two dead and several injured.

All the main roads and the arteries leading to Orangi Town including Kati Pahari, Banaras, Qasba Colony and other entry and exit points were blocked because armed men took up positions on the hilltops of the surroundings and targeted people passing through the area.

A ban on pillion riding has been imposed in Karachi effective from midnight Tuesday till indefinite period, according to the notification issued by Sindh Home Department. The ban on pillion riding has been imposed in view of the current law and order situation in the metropolis.

Senior citizen, women, children and journalists would be exempted from the ban.
